I required anadditionalsix months to complete thearticledissertation submissions necessary for my doctoral degree; however, I lacked the necessary funding. My late thesis advisor, Dr. Thomas G. Akers, promptly reached out to an individual whose nameremainsunknown to me, who without hesitation generously donated $5,000 to support my writing efforts. My contributions to the EndowmentFunds are inspired by this remarkable act of kindness I received over 30 years ago. I am committed to extending the same generosity to future scholars that an anonymous donor once provided to a young student at the beginning of their career in toxicology, as I was then.

Dr. Lemus Olalde holds a biochemical engineering degree from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM), as well as a Master of Science in biotechnology from the Centro de Investigación y de EstudiosAvanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CINVESTAV) in Mexico City. He earned his doctoral degree in environmental science from Tulane University and subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, Dr. Lemus has held several industry roles, including Principal at LeTox World LLC, HSE Director for the International Tungsten Industry Association, Principal Toxicologist at ARCADIS US Inc., and Associate Principal Scientist at Philip Morris USA. Dr. Lemus is a member of both SOT and the American College of Toxicology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicologists. Dr. Lemus has been a dedicated member of the SOT Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists (HOT) Special Interest Group, consistently supporting future toxicologists by donating student travel awards for more than 15 years. In 2019, he established the HOT Endowment Fund to promote toxicology education and foster emerging leaders in the discipline. He has served as a member of the Endowment Board since 2023 and is currently this year's Chair.
