Funding and specialized training can help turn promising ideas into meaningful advances in toxicology. SOT is now accepting applications for four 2027 Supported Awards.

These opportunities support graduate student research and training, research involving alternatives to animal testing, and postdoctoral study in in vitro toxicology. Explore the awards below to find the opportunity that best aligns with your work.

Bristol Myers Squibb Graduate Student Research Training Award to Promote Diversity in Toxicology

This award supplements research and training resources for Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic American, or Indigenous American graduate students enrolled in US-based PhD programs with a focus in toxicology. The award provides up to $10,000 for research costs, travel to scientific meetings, per diem, or related training expenses and includes an opportunity for the student and mentor to connect with nonclinical scientists at Bristol Myers Squibb.

Colgate-Palmolive Award for Student Research Training in Alternative Methods

This award helps MS and PhD students in toxicology gain hands-on training in in vitro methods or other alternative techniques that replace the use of animals in toxicological research. Training may take place at another laboratory, through specialized instruction at the student’s home institution that would not otherwise be available, or through an approved workshop, symposium, or continuing education program. The award provides up to $3,750 for travel, training expenses, and research costs. Applicants must be SOT Student members or pending Student members by the application deadline.

Colgate-Palmolive Grant for Alternative Research

Open to scientists at any career stage, this grant supports projects that promote, develop, refine, or validate scientifically acceptable animal alternative methods for assessing the safety of new chemicals and formulations. Priority is given to projects using in vitro or nonanimal models in reproductive and developmental toxicology, neurotoxicology, systemic toxicology, sensitization, or acute toxicity. Applicants must work in or have access to an established laboratory capable of conducting the proposed research. The award consists of a plaque and up to $40,000, provided as a single payment.

Colgate-Palmolive Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in In Vitro Toxicology

This one-year fellowship provides up to $44,000 for stipend and research-related costs to support postdoctoral research involving in vitro or other animal alternative methods. Eligible applicants must be employed by an academic institution, federal or national laboratory, or research institute when the fellowship is awarded, and institutions may be located anywhere in the world. The applicant’s doctoral degree must be conferred before funds are awarded, and preference is given to applicants in their first year of postdoctoral study. Either the applicant or postdoctoral advisor must be an SOT member or pending member.
