Students at the 2024 Undergraduate Diversity Program

Do you know undergraduate students who are interested in learning more about exciting opportunities in toxicology? The SOT Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement Committee (IDEC) is now accepting applications for several awards designed for undergraduate students and faculty. Don't miss out—applications are due by October 15!

We’re encouraging undergraduate students to apply for these valuable opportunities, and we ask faculty to help spread the word by sharing them with students who might be interested.

Undergraduate Diversity Program Student Advisor Travel Awards

The Undergraduate Diversity Program Student Travel Awards and the Undergraduate Diversity Program Advisor Travel Awards offer special recognition and provide support for travel and lodging to attend the three-day Undergraduate Diversity Program March 15–17, 2025, which is during the 2025 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo in Orlando, Florida.

Not familiar with the Undergraduate Diversity Program? It’s a fun and engaging in-person experience where students get to dive into the world of toxicology, meet with mentors, and network with SOT members from academia, industry, government, and more. Participants also get valuable tips on applying to grad school, succeeding once they’re there, and exploring different career paths in toxicology and biomedical research. Plus, students will attend Scientific Sessions and other exciting events at the Annual Meeting.

Here are the eligibility requirements for students:

  • Member of an ethnic/racial group underrepresented in the sciences as defined by the NIH, or
  • First in their family to attend college (first-generation college student), or
  • Recipient of a Pell Grant, or
  • Attend a school that focuses on undergraduate education and doesn’t offer graduate degrees in biomedical fields.
  • Students must also be US citizens or permanent residents, enrolled as an undergraduate student for the full 2024–2025 academic year, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. You can check out the full list of eligibility requirements on the SOT website.
  • Faculty members who aren’t SOT members but advise eligible students can apply for the Undergraduate Diversity Program Advisor Travel Award. A limited number of faculty advisors are selected each year to attend the program and help guide their students in exploring toxicology as a career.

For a closer look at what the program offers, visit the “Undergraduate Diversity Program” web page on the SOT Annual Meeting website.
