On October 13, 2014, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) announced the public release of a report A Framework to Guide Selection of Chemical Alternatives. Authored by an expert committee, the report presents a uniformly-applicable decision framework for evaluating potentially safer chemical alternatives in terms of human health and environmental risks.
The complete report is now available for free PDF download, along with a Report brief (4-page lay summary).
In addition, a webinar has been scheduled for Friday, October 24 at 12:30 pm EDT. The webinar, which is free and open to the public, will feature a presentation by the Chair of the report’s authoring committee, David Dorman of North Carolina State University, followed by a Q&A session with Dr. Dorman and several other committee members. Please visit the NAS website for more details and to register.
In addition to Dr. Dorman, the Society of Toxicology members on this committee include Nigel Greene, Carol Henry, and Ivan Rusyn as well as Marilee Shelton-Davenport, who is a study director and senior program officer, National Research Council Board on Life Sciences.
