AMP Announces Biomedical Research Awareness Day: April 19

SOT interacts with a wide variety of organizations and agencies in order to have greater success in fulfilling its mission of “creating a safer and healthier world by advancing the science and increasing the impact of toxicology.” One of the groups of which SOT is a member is the Americans for Medical Progress (AMP), has announced activities for its Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) on April 19. BRAD is held “to honor the roles laboratory animals play in the quest for new treatments and cures for people and animals.” For information on the activities planned on a number of universities and by AMP, please visit the AMP website.

Risk Science Center Dose-Response Assessment Boot Camp: May 8-12

The next Risk Science Center (formerly TERA) Dose-Response Boot Camp will be held May 8‒12, 2017, at the University of Cincinnati, Kettering Laboratory, Cincinnati, Ohio. The course begins at 8:00 am each day and ends at approximately at 5:00 pm, with the exception of Friday, which normally ends at 2:00 pm. This "Boot Camp" is an intensive hands-on training in hazard characterization and dose-response assessment. Beginners through expert toxicological risk assessors will learn advanced methods, as well as enhance their understanding and skills in the basics. Course lectures are supplemented with daily hands-on application exercises. Upon completing the course, the participants will be able to derive and evaluate risk values and supporting documentation for non-cancer and cancer risk assessments and will receive a certificate documenting their successful completion of the course. The Risk Science Center is committed to working with the public to improve knowledge and understanding of risk assessment issues.
