British Pharmacopoeia Commission Is Seeking Candidates for Appointments

The Centre for Public Appointments, Cabinet Office, London, United Kingdom (UK), has posted a notice regarding participation on the British Pharmacopoeia Commission (BPC). The Secretary of State for Health is seeking to appoint eight members to the BPC, which is responsible for preparing new editions of the British Pharmacopoeia, the British Pharmacopoeia (Veterinary), and the British Approved Names publication. It also provides advice to the UK delegation to the European Pharmacopoeia Commission, of which the UK is a member state. The notice states that: “These positions represent an excellent opportunity to be part of the overall system to ensure the quality of medicines in the UK.”  The BPC is looking for six professional members and two lay members. Applications are due by September 1, 2015.

Candidates applying for the professional post should be at a senior or board level in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, or the hospital service and should have a general understanding of the purpose and function of a pharmacopoeia and its place in the overall regulatory system (UK and Europe). Candidates will need to demonstrate recent experience in one of the following fields: pharmacy, analytical chemistry, biological sciences, herbal medicine, academic research and teaching, medicines standardization/control, the practice or control of veterinary medicines, the hospital service, or the pharmaceutical industry.
