Bio

Jay is a board-certified toxicologist with a PhD in Interdisciplinary Toxicology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  He started in the pharmaceutical industry in 2001 after graduating, originally as a Study Director in Contract Research.  He then took a position in Drug Safety at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, where he has had numerous responsibilities ranging from early research on new active ingredients and formulations to the defense and support of marketed products.  In the course of his career, he has been the Study Director or Sponsor Representative on more than 120 GLP studies, and has been the Drug Safety member on more than 25 global project teams, including those responsible for achieving marketing authorizations in dogs, cats, cattle, horses and swine.  He regularly presents safety data to regulatory authorities at the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, EPA, and EU.  He authors numerous user and target animal risk assessments, environmental impact assessments, extractable and leachable assessments, health hazard evaluations, toxicology summaries and white papers for regulatory submission. He is a subject matter expert for animal health risk assessment, and is routinely consulted for decisions that impact product safety. Jay chairs a cross-industry task force, and is a member of numerous internal and external committees and working groups.  He leads a cross-functional training series at Boehringer designed to inform Project Team members across Boehringer Global Innovation on various aspects of Drug Safety, Pharmacokinetics, Regulatory Affairs and technical topics required for global pharmaceutical product registrations. He also leads a cross-functional group forum composed of Drug Safety, Environmental Safety, Pharmacokinetic, Pathology and Discovery Toxicology members, named Paracelsus Club, to share project information and to discuss technical and regulatory insights and challenges for safety and risk-related topics.
