Carmen Rubio Armendáriz, Ph.D. (USA, 1973)

Associate Professor (tenured) of Toxicology at the University of La Laguna since 2009. Her education includes a Pharmacy Bachelor degree (1996), a Food Science and Technology Bachelor degree (2001), a Master in Pharmaceutical Care (1999), a Master of Toxicology and Food Safety (2006), a Master in Health Education (2007), and a Ph.D. in Basic and Applied Toxicology. Among other prizes she won the Award for Young Researchers in the Medical and Health Sciences branch from the Canary Islands Government (2002).

As a Senior Research Fellow, her research is focused on Food Safety, Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment. She has participated in 14 research projects and directed 15 doctoral theses. Prof Rubio is the author and/or co-author of more than 70 articles in high impact journals, a reviewer for several journals, international research programs, grants, and national and international PhDs.  She is also a member of the Scientific Committee on Food Safety of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare (2017-present).

 

She is member of the U.S. Society of Toxicology (SOT) since 2018 and has served on the Executive Committee of the Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists (HOT) since 2019, where she is chair of the Award, Education and Global Outreach Committees. She is also a member of the Spanish Association of Toxicology (AETOX).

 

She served in a senior academic policy and management role as Vice-Chancellor for Internationalization of the University of La Laguna (2015-2019), member of the university Council and Senate, Department Vice-Chair, Erasmus+ international mobility coordinator, and director of the Institutional Chair in Healthcare Pharmacy (2018-2019). Her enthusiasm for global networking offered her the opportunity to be appointed president of the Working Group on Internationalization of CRUE (Conference of Principals of 76 Spanish Universities) and member of CRUE executive committee for Internationalization and Cooperation (2017-2019). She also served as the councillor for research of the Official College of Pharmacists in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (2004-2018).
