SOT facilitates building global toxicology research capacity through the Global Senior Scholar Exchange Program (GSSEP). The deadline for Scholars to apply is August 31, 2021. We encourage you to consider applying for a Scholar position and to pass this message along to others. This year the Host institutions were selected first, and the Scholar applicants can view the Host information on the GSSEP website. A video produced by the SOT Education and Career Development Committee provides a nice overview of updates to the program.

Wafa Hassen from the High Institute of Biotechnology of Monastir in Tunisia was one of the 2016 Scholars and said, “GSSEP was one the greatest scientific adventure I ever had. GSSEP was a tremendous opportunity to network with scientists in different disciplines during the SOT Annual Meeting but also along my visits to the different research institutions (Duke, NIEHS, NTP, EPA, FDA, NCI, NIH). Furthermore, I learned about ways to build up and support collaborations between research institutions in the US and Tunisia.”

We look forward to receiving Scholar applications from toxicologists in developing countries. SOT will support two mid-career to senior toxicologists from developing countries to attend the SOT 61st Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, March 27–31, 2022, in San Diego, California, and spend about four weeks with a Host in an established laboratory. The program provides up to $10,000 for the Scholar’s travels and $5,000 for the Host to travel to the Scholar’s institution. Funds are not provided for equipment, laboratory supplies, or renovations.
