We recognize that research efforts were interrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent quarantine and stay-at-home orders. Many institutions, companies, and laboratories are just beginning to reopen or are finalizing their plans for reopening, and for some of you, it may be many months before your results are ready to be described in an abstract submitted for the SOT Annual Meeting. In response, SOT is extending the abstract submission deadline for the 2021 Annual Meeting to December 1, 2020. The abstract submission period will begin in mid-September. The extended deadline will result in abstract acceptance notifications being delivered no later than January 8, 2021.

In conjunction with this decision, we are adjusting the early-bird registration deadline to January 22, 2021, to accommodate these later abstract acceptance notifications. This later abstract deadline also will mean that there will be no late-breaking abstracts as part of the 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo.

SOT leadership continues to monitor how the toxicology and SOT communities are being affected by COVID-19 and other events and will implement changes to the 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo as needed to protect the health, safety, and ability of all to participate while delivering the same quality of science and opportunities for connection for which the SOT meeting is known.

I look forward to continuing to share updates with you as we develop a stellar SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo for 2021.
