Each month, SOT provides an update on activities and events of importance to the toxicology community through the release of the “Around the World of Toxicology” blog. To submit an event, opportunity, or information for consideration for inclusion in the monthly “Around the World of Toxicology” blog, complete the special submission form for “Around the World of Toxicology” items. Please note that only activities by societies and professional associations (i.e., nonprofits) will be considered. If you are an organization or company seeking to promote an event, please submit your activity to the SOT “Calendar of Events.”
Reminders of Upcoming, Previously Featured Deadlines and Activities
- You can submit an abstract for the Australasian College of Toxicology & Risk Assessment (ACTRA) 15th Annual Scientific Meeting and Continuing Education Days until July 10. Taking place August 29–September 1 at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth, Western Australia, the meeting theme is “Chemicals and Cancer: What’s New in Toxicology and Risk Assessment?” Early-bird registration for the meeting ends on July 31.
- Abstract submissions for oral, poster, and flash poster presentations for American Society for Cellular and Computational Toxicology (ASCCT) 12th Annual Meeting are due July 14. July 14 also is the travel award submission deadline. The theme for the meeting is “Spotlight on NAMs: Elevating New Approaches in Risk Assessment.”

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
AAAS in collaboration with the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) is hosting a conference September 21–22 titled “Scientific Evidence and the Courts.” Individuals can attend in person at the AAAS Headquarters in Washington, DC, or virtually.

ASPIS Cluster
Comprised of three EU Horizon 2020 Research projects—ONTOX, PrecisionTox, and RISK-HUNT3r—the ASPIS Cluster is hosting an Open Symposium September 14–15, 2023, immediately following EUROTOX 2023 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The symposium is open to members of the ASPIS Cluster, with portions open to other researchers.

European Societies of Toxicology (EUROTOX)
The deadline to submit a late-breaking abstract for EUROTOX 2023 is August 7. The meeting theme for the 57th Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology, taking place September 10–13 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is “Toxicology—Multidisciplinary Science Leading to Safer and Sustainable Life.”

Gordon Research Conference and Seminar
Taking place August 12–13 at the Proctor Academy in Andover, New Hampshire, the Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Toxicity Gordon Research Seminar will address the theme “Exploring Frontiers in Translational Toxicology: Linking Mechanistic Research to Real-World Applications.” Registration for the seminar ends July 15.

“Modernized Approaches to Mechanistic Toxicology Investigations” is the theme for the 2023 Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Toxicity Gordon Research Conference. Registration for the conference closes on July 16. This year’s event is taking place August 13–18 at the Proctor Academy in Andover, New Hampshire.

National Association for Biomedical Research (NABR)
On June 15, NABR filed a petition challenging the 2022 International Union for Conversation of Nature (IUCN) designation of the long-tailed macaque (Cynomolgus macaque) as endangered. The petition cites a lack of scientific evidence that long-tail macaque populations are on the decline.

The 14th Annual National Postdoc Appreciation Week will be September 18–22. During this week, organizations and companies around the US will be hosting events and providing resources to postdocs in their community. Virtual activities also are part of National Postdoc Appreciation Week.
