Each month, SOT provides an update on activities and events of importance to the toxicology community through the release of the “Around the World of Toxicology” blog. To submit an event, opportunity, or information for consideration for inclusion in the monthly “Around the World of Toxicology” blog, complete the special submission form for “Around the World of Toxicology” items. Please note that only activities by societies and professional associations (i.e., nonprofits) will be considered. If you are an organization or company seeking to promote an event, please submit your activity to the SOT “Calendar of Events.”
Reminders of Upcoming, Previously Featured Deadlines and Activities
- The deadline to submit a late-breaking abstract for EUROTOX 2023 is August 7. The 57th Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology is taking place September 10–13, 2023, in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
- Registration closes on August 31 for the ASPIS 2023 Open Symposium. This event will be held September 14–15, 2023, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, immediately following EUROTOX 2023.
Activity Announcements, Updates, and Opportunities
European Societies of Toxicology (EUROTOX)
The Bulgarian Toxicology Society is hosting a training course titled “Risk Assessment in Regulatory Toxicology—Contemporary Methodology Course.” This course, which is being financially supported by EUROTOX and IUTOX, will take place October 16–20 at the Vitosha Park Hotel and the Technical University Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria. Registration for this course closes on August 30.

International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX)
Individuals can now submit abstracts for the 12th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries, taking place April 15–18, 2024, in Santiago, Chile. Abstracts are due October 30. Also register by November 30 to receive the early-bird discount.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The NIH is hosting a virtual workshop on August 21 that will explore approaches, challenges, and opportunities relating to the development of novel alternative methods. There also is an open Request for Information about “Catalyzing the Development and Use of Novel Alternative Methods to Advance Biomedical Research,” with comments due on August 16.

US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA)
On August 22, the US FDA Center for Tobacco Products is holding a virtual listening session to allow individuals to provide public comments on the center’s draft strategic plan. Requests to speak during the listening session must be received by August 14.
