US EPA Review Panel for Revised Technical Guidance for Assessing Environmental Justice in Regulatory Analysis
The US EPA Science Advisory Board is seeking public nominations of scientific experts to establish a panel responsible for evaluating the updated Technical Guidance for Assessing Environmental Justice in Regulatory Analysis. This panel will also develop recommendations for advancing environmental justice science in rulemaking. Nominations are due November 13.

NASEM Call for Experts on Mental Health Effects of Toxic Exposures Among Veterans
NASEM is looking for experts to join a new study aimed at examining potential links between toxic exposures during military service and veterans’ mental health and other health outcomes. The US Department of Veterans Affairs has asked NASEM to produce an independent scientific assessment regarding the possible connections between mental health issues (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and suicide) and toxic exposures encountered during military service. Nominations are due November 17.

CDC World Trade Center Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee
The CDC is inviting nominations for individuals to serve on the Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee of the World Trade Center Health Program. Nominations are due November 20.

US EPA Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee Nitrogen Oxides Panel
The US EPA Science Advisory Board needs nominations for scientific experts to serve on the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee’s Nitrogen Oxides Panel. This panel will offer guidance on the Primary National Ambient Air Quality Standards for nitrogen oxides. Nominations are due November 24.

NHLBI Request for Information on Exploring the Role of AI in the Use of Big Data in Heart, Lung, Blood, and Sleep Research
This request by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is soliciting insights on leveraging artificial intelligence to improve the utilization and incorporation of big data, such as ’omics data, in clinical assessments and high-throughput ’omics screening. Comments are due December 5.

NIH Request for Information on Environmental Justice Research Gaps, Opportunities, and Capacity Building
The NIH Environmental Justice Working Group is seeking input on the strategies that the agency can adopt to bolster research and capacity-building initiatives aimed at promoting environmental justice in the United States and worldwide. Comments are due December 15.

NIH Request for Information on Proposed Guidance on Cephalopod Care and Use
The NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare is soliciting feedback on draft guidance regarding the use of cephalopods in research, research training, experimentation, or biological testing, and related applications. The proposed guidance outlines performance standards for institutions with approved Animal Welfare Assurance, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees, and other oversight entities. Comments are due December 22.

NIA and NHLBI Request for Information on the Need for Research Studies to Evaluate Potential Effects of Types of Blood Pressure Reducing Agents on the Development of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) are seeking input on the necessity of research studies to assess the potential effects of various blood pressure–reducing agents on the emergence of mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Comments are due December 31.

HESI Emerging Issues Committee: 2024 Call for Proposals
HESI is inviting recommendations for key emerging scientific concerns, whether related to human or environmental health, that warrant attention through a concentrated, cross-sector collaborative initiative. Submissions will undergo review in early 2024, with the potential selection of one or more proposals to establish a novel scientific program within HESI. Proposals are due January 15.
