Within the last month, several US government agencies have issued calls for nominations and information. This blog contains a summary of recent requests (in deadline order) from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and US Environmental Protection Agency.
US EPA Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals
The US EPA is soliciting nominations for individuals to positions opening this year on its Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals. Specifically, the agency is looking for experts in human health and ecological risk assessment, biostatistics, epidemiology, pediatrics, physiologically based pharmacokinetics, toxicology and pathology, cancer hazard and risk assessment, aggregate exposure, exposure assessment, bioinformatics/statistics, inhalation exposure, inhalation toxicology, occupational exposure/industrial hygiene, and the relationship of chemical exposures to women, children, and other potentially exposed or susceptible subpopulations. The nomination deadline is December 11, 2023.

CDC World Trade Center Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee
The CDC is extending the deadline, originally set for November 20, to December 30, 2023, for nominations for the World Trade Center Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee. The committee is looking for experts in occupational medicine, pulmonary medicine, environmental medicine, environmental health, industrial hygiene, epidemiology, toxicology, and mental health, as well as representatives of World Trade Center responders and certified-eligible survivors.

NIAMS Strategic Plan Themes
The NIAMS has asked for input on themes for inclusion in its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan. The proposed themes are:
- Molecular and cellular mechanisms of health and disease and resulting phenotypes for therapy development
- Data science, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, and computational biology
- Health disparities and health equity
- Pain in arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin conditions
- Lifestyle factors and environmental exposures that affect health and related interventions
- Clinical and epidemiologic research and preclinical studies necessary for translating basic findings into interventions
- Interdisciplinary research, team science, and partnerships
- Training and workforce
- Enabling technologies and model systems
Feedback must be received by January 1, 2024.

NCI Request for Information
The NCI has issued a request for information regarding the identification of “obstacles and opportunities in the application of systems immunology approaches to reveal underlying principles that regulate immune responses to cancer.” Responses are due February 29, 2024.
