Contribute to the Scientific Program as a Platform or Poster Session Chair!

By James Luyendyk posted 27 days ago

The Scientific Program Committee (SPC) is excited to receive your abstract submissions by November 13! Following the SPC review of abstracts, the Platform and Poster Sessions will be developed in mid-December.

Platform and Poster Chairs Needed

Chairs will be needed for the estimated 8 Platform Sessions and 76 Poster Sessions. All SOT members are eligible to serve as a Platform or Poster Session Chair for the meeting, which is taking place March 22–25, 2026, in San Diego, California.

While the specific responsibilities vary slightly between the two session types, Chairs for both Platform and Poster Sessions share two fundamental tasks:

  • Familiarize themselves with all abstracts in their session to facilitate meaningful engagement with each presenter.

  • Ensure the seamless and punctual execution of their session.

For a comprehensive understanding of Chair responsibilities, please review the Platform Session Chair and Poster Session Chair guidelines available on the SOT Annual Meeting website.

2025 SOT poster sessions

You want to help but are presenting an abstract yourself?

If your abstract has been accepted into a particular Platform or Poster Session, you may still serve as Chair for that session, as the time commitment of a Platform or Poster Session Chair is minimal during the session. The time commitment expected from Platform and Poster Session Chairs typically ranges from 45 to 60 minutes on-site during the SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo.

For most Poster Sessions, two Chairs will be assigned, so if one or both Chairs are presenting a poster during that session, they can alternate between presenting their posters and performing the Chair duties.

How Do I Sign Up?

To volunteer as an SOT Platform or Poster Session Chair, please complete the Chair Volunteer Form. Take note that Chairs are often chosen to oversee sessions related to their expertise, so be sure to review the Category List in this blog before completing the Volunteer Form. If selected, you can anticipate an invitation to serve as a Chair, along with additional instructions, by early February 2026.

Although you may indicate a preference between a Platform or Poster Session, since more Chairs are needed for Poster Sessions, you may be asked to chair a Poster Session even if you preferred a Platform Session.
