In Support of the Scientific Process and Those Who Engage in It

Science is relevant

A reminder that the Society of Toxicology’s commitment to rigorous, evidence-based science spans changes in policy, leadership, and public discourse. SOT affirms its commitment to the advancement of scientific knowledge and to the protection of human, animal, and environmental health through rigorous, evidence-based inquiry.

Scientific progress depends on the ability of researchers to pursue questions openly, evaluate evidence objectively, communicate findings transparently, and revise conclusions when new information becomes available. This dynamic process is inherently iterative. Uncertainty and refinement are integral to the scientific method and strengthen, rather than diminish, the reliability of scientific knowledge over time.

The Society recognizes that scientific evidence informs decisions affecting public health, medicine, environmental protection, and chemical safety. Such decisions should be guided by the best available evidence at the time they are made, with the understanding that knowledge will continue to evolve through continued research, review, and discovery.

SOT supports all individuals who conduct, communicate, and apply science in good faith and in accordance with established scientific principles. Efforts that discourage, undermine, or target those who follow the evidence risk weakening the innovation, transparency, and open inquiry upon which scientific progress depends.

As a scientific society, SOT remains committed to fostering an environment in which evidence guides inquiry, inquiry advances understanding, and scientific knowledge serves the health and well-being of people, animals, and the environment.
