In response to a membership-expressed desire to include more timely research in the SOT Annual Meeting, the Society is excited to announce this year’s Hot Topic Featured Session:  COVID-19 Therapeutics and Vaccines: A Race to Save Lives.

Taking place Thursday, March 25, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (US EDT, UTC -4), the newly approved session will feature presenters from Gilead Sciences Inc., Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc., Pfizer Inc., and the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA). They will discuss VEKLURY® (remdesivir, direct acting antiviral from Gilead), casirivimab and imdevimab (antibody cocktail from Regeneron), and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, as well as US FDA perspectives concerning the development of early- and late-stage drug development during the ongoing pandemic. Specifically, the presentations will explore the pharmacology and mode of action, nonclinical development, and regulatory development pathways for these therapeutics.

This Hot Topic session is not the only COVID-related session in the program. A “COVID-19 Issues” Poster Session also is scheduled for the meeting and will occur on Wednesday, March 24, at 11:15 am (US EDT, UTC -4). To attend these sessions and the 65+ other Scientific Sessions, as well as partake in the myriad networking and social activities, visit with top toxicology organizations and companies, and more, register to the attend the Virtual 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo today.

On Hot Topic Proposals:

A call for Hot Topic proposals was included in the January 21 Communiqué blog. Hot Topic proposals were due by February 5, and that deadline was followed with a proposal review by the Scientific Program Committee. As with 90-minute sessions, proposals were required to include the names and affiliations of the session Chair and no more than three presenters, an abstract describing the overall session, and sufficiently detailed abstracts for each presentation. Of note, all policies regarding Scientific Session acceptance, including the policy of SOT members registering themselves for the Annual Meeting, apply to a Hot Topic submission.

Standard registration rates are available through Friday, February 19, which will issue you a passport into the SOT Virtual Meeting Platform. Don’t miss this yearly opportunity to connect with the toxicology community, and register today for the 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo.
