We are excited about the opportunity to meet in person in San Diego for the 2022 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo. The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, staff, and other meeting personnel, especially those in vulnerable populations (e.g., aged 65+, immunocompromised), are our highest priority.
With this in mind, those attending the 2022 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo in person in San Diego must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Individuals who are unable to attend because of travel restrictions or choosing not to be vaccinated are invited to join the SOT meeting remotely via livestreams of most of the Scientific Sessions and on-demand viewing as part of our enhanced meeting experience. Essentially, all registrants will be able to view and participate in scientific discussions regardless of their physical location.
We will collect proof of vaccination status, as well as documentation of medically approved exemptions for those with health conditions that prevent vaccination, before badges are issued—details on how to provide this documentation are still to come. We will not mail badges this year, so please plan on picking up your badge on-site in San Diego, allowing ample time for check-in before your first event.
Please know that the SOT Council did not make this decision lightly. Based on our commitment to improving public health and advancing the science of toxicology, we determined that this was the best path forward. Many other scientific associations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), have adopted similar policies.
I am looking forward to our 2022 scientific program and the meeting enhancements that will provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy the science in person in San Diego or remotely.
