The SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo Begins in Three Months—Important Deadlines and Reminders

By Myrtle Davis posted 12-16-2021 14:31

We are three months from the start of the SOT 61st Annual Meeting and ToxExpo. Our Committees, Component Groups, staff, and other volunteers remain hard at work for the meeting’s return to San Diego and in-person activities, and I wanted to provide a quick summary of available resources and upcoming deadlines.

Preliminary Program PDF and Online Planner—Available Now

Last week, we published the Preliminary Program PDF, which contains a look at the scientific program for the meeting, as well as many of the SOT-hosted professional development and social events. The Preliminary Program PDF also provides more information on the meeting’s vaccination requirements for individuals attending the meeting on-site in San Diego and the enhanced meeting experience (i.e., livestreams and on-demand recordings) that is available to all meeting registrants.

Meanwhile, the Online Planner continues to be the most up-to-date calendar of events for the meeting. Events—such as Regional Chapter, Special Interest Group, and Specialty Section luncheons, mentoring events, and receptions—are added continually as they are finalized. Remember that the Online Planner works in conjunction with the SOT Event App (launching by February 2022) and allows you to build a personalized calendar for the meeting.

Late-Breaking Abstract Submission Period—January 3–January 15, 2022

You will have one week to submit a late-breaking abstract for consideration for the 2022 SOT Annual Meeting. The submission site will be open from Monday, January 3, until 11:59 pm (EST) on Saturday, January 15. More details on abstract submissions are available on the SOT Annual Meeting website.

Childcare Services and Enrollment—Advanced Enrollment Deadline: January 21, 2022

SOT has contracted with KiddieCorp to provide childcare during the 61st Annual Meeting and ToxExpo. The program will be located at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina and will provide care for children ages 6 months through 12 years old. Intended for children accompanying registered attendees, the cost is $12.00 per hour, per child, with a minimum of two consecutive hours per child for each day enrolled. The advance enrollment deadline is January 21, 2022. The enrollment form, as well as more information on KiddieCorp and the health and safety protocols in place, are available on the SOT Annual Meeting website.

Editor's Note: Based on a lack on enrollment as of the advance enrollment deadline of January 21, 2022, SOT has canceled the childcare services that were planned for the 2022 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo. A childcare service will be offered again for the 2023 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo.

Remember that during the SOT 61st Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, registrants are allowed to bring fully vaccinated children under full parental/guardian control into the Scientific Sessions and the ToxExpo Exhibit Hall. For more on the SOT child policy, view the Annual Meeting Policies.

Early-Bird Registration—Ends January 28, 2022

Register for the meeting by January 28 to secure the best registration rates.

Hot Topic Session Proposals—Deadline: February 11, 2022

SOT is seeking proposals for Hot Topic Sessions to feature toxicology-related issues that have either arisen since the deadline for regular session proposals or peaked in interest to the scientific community and/or public. Hot Topic proposals are due by Friday, February 11. Read Michael Aschner’s recent blog for more information on what types of ideas qualify and how to submit proposals.

Other Annual Meeting–Related Opportunities

The Undergraduate Diversity Program is seeking Host and Peer (Graduate Student or Postdoc) Mentors for the 2022 program. Applications are due January 10; see the Committee on Diversity Initiatives’s blog post for more information on the program.

Also, sign up to meet informally with and offer advice and guidance to early career researchers as part of the Chat with an Expert program. The deadline for expert sign-up is January 10, 2022. Program and application details are available in David Filipovic’s blog post.

In the new year, we will have many announcements to share, including:

  • Details on and how to register for the Past Presidents’ 5K Fun Run/Walk
  • All the Platform and Poster Session presentations accepted for the meeting
  • The 2022 SOT Award recipients
  • How to engage in the livestreams and question-and-answer discussions that are part of the 2022 enhanced meeting experience
  • How SOT will collect and validate proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to participate in the Annual Meeting and ToxExpo on-site
  • And more

Until then, best wishes to you and yours this holiday season.
