The January 2026 issue of Toxicological Sciences includes two #ToxSpotlight articles: One highlights a study the role of epidermal growth factor receptor in promoting acetaminophen-induced livery injury progression, which has wide implications in liver biology, while the other examined the effect of chemical interference with deiodinases on brain development in a rodent pregnancy model using iopanoic acid. I required an   additional   six months to complete the   article   dissertation submissions necessary for my doctoral degree; however, I lacked the necessary funding. My late thesis advisor, Dr. Thomas G. Akers, promptly reached out to an individual whose name   remains   unknown to me, who without hesitation generously donated $5,000 to support my writing efforts. SOT has learned that Kenneth L. Hastings, DrPH, DABT, ATS, passed away on January 2, 2026. For the bulk of his career, Dr. Hastings worked for the US Food and Drug Administration, serving in various roles, centers, and offices. In later years, he worked for Sanofi US and as an independent consultant. This blog serves as an announcement of the member’s passing.
