SOT is sharing this blog on behalf of the McClintock Letters Initiative.   Federal funding for scientific research is under unprecedented threat. But how the public responds to this threat depends on the stories they hear and who they hear them from. Unfortunately, local communities rarely get to connect with the scientists whose work their tax dollars support. Direct communication is how we re-establish trust between the scientific community and the public who fund us. To increase public awareness of the value of federally funded research being done across the United States,  sign up now  to participate in the McClintock Letters Initiative ...

In 2007 , the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine created a report titled “Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century: A Vision and a Strategy . ” The report advocates for developing in vitro , ex vivo , or in silico technologies to reduce animal testing while still providing adequate toxicity evaluation.
